June drop

How did you all fare during June drop. My apples, as you know are problematic. My Enterprise finally had twelve or thirteen bagged apples. I am now down to two that are hanging on and slowly turning red. Lack of pollination on the rest, I'm fairly sure. Also, during blossom time we had a lot of rain. Not a good combo for me. My Jonagold's are bigger than ever, as are my Mott's Pink, which I am most excited about. My orchard is much like a horticultural zoo these days as the trees with fruit (cherries, plums and peaches) are all netted. In the evenings I take a stroll and look at the beautiful fruit behind the netting. Cherries, real sour cherries, enough for a pie, for the first time!!! The white peaches look like a Chinese painting. Its almost time to start bagging my Concord grapes. I'm having a good year. Mrs. G

June drop for me was almost non-existant in 2013 and 2014. Not sure why. Just finished hand thinning my last apple tree on July 4th as I found I got the bottom half done
in June but missed the top of the tree. Lots of double and
triple fruits hanging on per cluster. Those thinned earlier have been sizing up nicely.

Glad to hear you will have cherry pie this year! I just picked my first picking of North Star cherries last night. Slim crop for me as the tree is being wiped out by bacterial
blight. I will relish the light crop I have. Despite the netting,
I found a robin under the net this morning. Left a note for
the children to let it out before leaving for work.

Due to all the rain (almost every day?) I am finding mildew
and some brown rot in my cherries. First time ever.

Bagging your concord grapes? Paper bags? Just wondering as I tried paper bags once on Canadice grapes.
It worked fine but was some effort putting them on.

Some of my apple trees that had few fruits on this year got
bagged in plastic sandwich bags. Those with a decent enough crop are getting sprayed for the season. So far
no drops from those I did bag.

Thanks for the info Spartan. I bag my grapes in paper bags that are made of waxpaper. They are a pain to attach but worth it as birds are ruthless with my Concord grapes. Mrs. G

Only apple that set fruit this year is the Gala, and I bagged every apple, even triples, figuring on drop. But they're almost all still hanging on.

I'm starting to see the first curculio drop on my Stanley plum, the only other tree with fruit. Too early to tell if my new spray regime has wrought improvement.

June drop has taken out a lot of my Granny smith which was loaded. First year I had curculio attacks on my apples. Macoun and some on my Liberty. funny I have two areas of apples very close together, but no hits in my veggie garden which I have half of my apple trees. I guess I'll have to watch in the future for the little buggers. Blueberries are the best I have ever had. finally caged them with a door and it has paid off,.
