I have black beauty eggplants setting fruit but the skin seems to be cracking getting brown like woodsy looking. ? to much water or not enough ?to much fertilizer or not enough. 10-10-10 and miracle grow liquid tomato food being used.
Thanks Sal

I planted in Sept I fertilized once with 10-10-10 after the first month and have used the miracle grow liquid twice the past month and a half. Watering 3 times a week a good saturation but it is a raised bed which drains well. I wait for the soil to feel dry then water some times only twice. The plants do look healthy. thanks

Fruit cracking is usually a result of inconsistent soil moisture levels. It isn't too much or too little but the extremes of both. The fruit gets a good load of water on then it gets dry and shrinks, then wet again, swells and the skins split.

If they are well mulched then it is just a matter of evening out your watering program - water less but more frequently perhaps. If they aren't well mulched then they need to be. ;)

Thanks Dave
They are not mulched but I will try to be more consistent with my watering habits
Thanks again
