Fortex (pole). Always gets rave reviews. Check the Beans & Legumes forum here too for even more suggestions.

Ditto on "Fortex". "Emerite" is also very good, actually better canned/frozen quality than "Fortex". Both are pole varieties, and will produce all Summer. They do well in cooler weather, a plus given your location, Herbgardener.

Another fan of Fortex for pole beans here.

In the bush bean category I have really preferred Strike to all others in the 'green bean' category. It has the advantage of being fairly early to start producing and being able to keep producing (if kept picked) longer than other varieties I have grown. It's like a bush bean with pole bean traits in terms of yielding for a long time instead of a big flush and then petering out quickly.

If you want an actual filet bean (a long thin bean) you will need to pick Strike sooner than Fortex as it's not really a filet type, but can be harvested that way at a shorter size.

Having grown both Fortex and Emerite I find that Fortex is somewhat overrated and not nearly as nice as Emerite. Now that is just under my growing conditions and according to my taste. I still grow half a row of each. I am still looking for a really great yellow pole bean. I found some that are quite nice but not great. Found a really good, tasty, prolific, trouble free yellow French Fillet type yellow bush bean this season called Beurre de Rocquencourt, a French heirloom. Suggestions anyone?
