I have much of my outdoor summer garden indoors -- all of my patio plants and the more select annuals are wintering indoors under lights or in the converted garage/family room.

That keeps me busy enough in the winter, tending them.

Seed starting begins in Feb.

I'm testing seed viability currently on seeds. I have a tray with 18 seeds each of Copra onion, Buttercrunch lettuce, Simpson Elite lettuce, saved basil seed (which seems to be smaller than the seed received from packet), and Ventura Celery.

That way I don't order extra seed I don't need if it is still fairly viable.

I'll also be writing up my gardening plans/layouts in the coming month as well. Surprising that I'm less than two months away from starting the onion seeds inside already!

I have been laid up with a broken ankle. Started a worm farm in a glass jug. I check their work several times a day (see Vermicomposting). The seed catalogs are starting to come in. They are so beautiful that I want to get wallpaper paste and glue them to the wall in the hallway. A big collage. Add to it year after year. My favorites so far: Baker Creek and Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. They have some talented artists working for them. Too pretty to allow them to get wrinkled on the end table.
