From your description it's really difficult to offer you any suggestions. I'd recommend consulting with a professional interior decorator for excellent furniture and appropriate fabrics. If you are in the Toronto area, I would be delighted to assist! :)

Interior design is our specialty at Gabberts. We have a talented group of designers who would love to help!

Check designer's portfolio first to see if you like their aesthetics.

Many furniture stores have In-store designers and offer complimentary visits to your home when purchasing furniture. Ethan Allan being one of these stores. They have a tremendous selection too of fabrics which their designers can help you choose.

I wouldn't rule out working with an independent interior designer until you know their terms. For instance, when you work with me you are paying me for my design time only and I pass on my trade discount which varies depending on the company.Ethan Allen builds the design fee into their furniture pricing, so nothing is "free" when you really look at it.

Personally, I have access to a resource centre that has more fabric companies and more fabric books than any other location in Canada (and is second only to another place in San Diego I understand). As well, I am not locked into working with one manufacturer either. I can suggest pieces according to your style and budget and they could be from a number of reputable manufacturers.

Hi Sarah, most (if not all) furniture stores have designers on staff who will help you choose a fabric to go with your existing chair FREE of charge. Of course they would love you to buy from them too, but that is you prerogative if you want to or not. I think it's beneficial to visit many furniture stores where you will get a few different opinions as well as have the opportunity to view the different furniture styles each store has to offer.

if you post a picture of your fabric, we could all give you our thoughts.

Good luck Sarah!
