Ditto. Used part of it for the waterfall, a berm around the pond, and some to fill in low spots. The rest, I found a friend who needed some dirt for her low spots. You'd be surprised how many people are eager to get free dirt. Ask around.

I would be very slow to get rid of that dirt for awhile. You might come up with an idea for it shortly. (providing you have enough area to store it).

Before you dug the pond what did a big heavy rain do to your yard? I ask after seeing that hill in the background I would worry about getting some run off in to the pond. You dont want soil or pesticides to pour in there.

If that is not a problem you got enough soil there to build a basin/2nd pond that could fill up then pour out as your waterfall. Build a little bowl up top. Could even make it a veggie filter with some plants up top then spilling in to the pond?

Ask the neighbors. We had to haul some dirt away (lucky my town has an area to dump such stuff) but a lot of it got hauled away by neighbors for low spots in their lawns or areas they were trying to fill in. My teenage stepson even made a few bucks hauling some down the street for an elderly neighbor! It never ceases to amaze me how much soil can come out of a hole in the ground ;)

azponder, when we have heavy rains there is essentially a stream in the back at the bottom of the hill. Eventually it will be a dry stream, but that is not in any kind of planning stages yet, just on my to be done list. This area doesn't seem to get much run-off as when looking at the picture, the lowest side is on the left, the highest the side near the house where there is only about 5 feet between the pond and the house, which will be given a pathway and a bench.

I do have some low spots, along with holes (see the pup in the current picture). I think I'll use the dirt to fill in the holes, keep some for the berm and the rest for a low spot in the side area, mixed with good soil for grass planting.

I got the main pond done. I was nervous about the fish being in the pool for too long so I got the pond finished yesterday afternoon enough to get the fish in there this morning. I don't know how much bacteria I have on my bioballs from the old pond being still early in the spring but some is better than none. My plants go in next even though I'm not sure one of my hardy lillies made the temporary move out of the pond. It was higher than the other one and looks a little sick and dried out even though I tried to keep it moist. I'll give it a shot and if not, then replace it.

Here's the current picture with still needing rock work done and finishing touches. I'll update pictures as I progress.

PS. My fish seem thrilled to be out of the baby pool and into their new home.

Ok you have xtra dirt if i where you i would add planting soil to that and mix it well then buy some red worms to feed your fish that you will put in it
