We just bouht a southwestern style home with a living/dining room that is only about 30'/20'. Our problem is that is has a monstrousity of a fireplace that practicaly covers an entire wall. My question is do I tone down the paint color and paint in a mild tone to minimize it or do I paint it a darker tone? It's already the focal point in the room do I really need to highlight it even more? Please, please any help is appreciated.

I love your kiva style fireplace. With the right accessories and furnishings it will be a great feature in your Southwest home. Your present paint color looks like a bright white. I would suggest a warmer off white.

Actually the white you are seeing is primer. I just don't know if I should paint it a different color from the tan walls to make it stand out even more than it already does.

Am suffering the same delimma. Accent or not to accent. I'm thinking rock veneer. It's not going to go away or change shape so might as well embrace it and go all the way.

I would paint it a couple shades darker than your wall color, since it is such a beautiful part of your room!

I think it should be the same colors as the walls. I would also polish the tiles so the color is richer.

The curved space is ideal for a small accent mosaic. The curved arch could also be incorporated. I'd use warm colors. It could be really cool.

I LOVE it, but I'd probably paint it the same color as your walls just for simplicity and continuity.

I'd leave it as a simple kiva fireplace and not try to ornament it with tile. I think that leaving it the same color as the walls will work well.

Yes, same as walls OR wall behind it painted darker.

Believe it or not its been 3 months and I still haven't painted it! Thank you all for your comments. I've been leaning towards painting it the same color as the walls but hubby likes other....I think I will get to my painting this weekend...same color it is :-)
