I am real new at the pond and fish but after a year of my first try, I can say most fish are shy in a new habitat, and even after you gain their trust..in about a month of tossing food and then walking where they can't see you...if any kind of predator scares them...back to being shy..it is the only way to stay alive.....

Usually they are hiding. Any evidence of critters bothering the pond?
