I think you wired your plug-in incorrectly. It should work unless you are using too small of wire, or your connections are not good. Or, if you wired the switch incorrectly (if it is a switched outlet). Or, your UV light is not making a proper connection to the bulb, or water is getting to the connection.

Its a pre-wired 4 outlet unit with a built in timer. There isn't anything to screw up. Its just a black, white and green wire for the entire box. I'll check it though. . I'll check the bulb again also.

Upon further checking, the stock wires in the box might be too small. Stupid !@#$!@#$#@!$!$

Chris, I doubt that it is the problem. If I had to guess I would say that water is leaking into the bulb connection.

i concur with mike_il. GFCI's are sensitive (~5/1000's of an amp) so it does not take much to trip - that is how it protects us.

I can pull the ballast and bulb out of the filter and it still does it. The filter is upright with the ballast up high and there is no water in the glass chamber....I checked and the ballast isn't wet.

Unless my ballast is screwing up....its a dam near brand new unit. I originally flickered 5-6 time then went to full power and worked with the GFCI......now it blinks once and light sup full then trips the breaker..

chris: so if you pull the unit out of the water completely, let it dry completely, it still trips the GFCI? Do you have another gfci? take the light to the bathroom or kitchen (presuming you have a gfci) and try the light there. Maybe your "new" gfci is bad - i've seen it before.

Mine does the same thing. It does not matter which plug. I have a GFCI plug and I have another plug nearby with a GFCI breaker on the panel...it trips them both...yet both plugs work for other devices.
