For a naturalistic look, you could drape a couple old branches down into the pond.

I found some frogs in my mothers pond that could not get out. I put some rocks in the pond and this gave them a way out. Now they come and go freely.

Tadpoles have lungs and need to stay underwater. Frogs have lungs and breathe air. They need to have solid ground of some sort, they cannot be trapped in a pond or they will drown and starve too.

I collect long pieces of driftwood and prop one in the pond for a ramp in case any critters need to climb out. The end rots out after a year or so, so needs to be replaced periodically.

The branch idea sound good. I was going to suggest an overturned pot, crate, or a stone at the waters edge for them to climb up on and then jump. My frogs use the planters on the shelves to climb up and sit on, then they jump out when they want to go elsewhere.

Thanks guys. As an experiment, I put a strip of expanded metal about 6" wide down into the pond resting in the pot for the lotus. I noticed when I got up today, two were sitting on it and one was on the outside. So, something like that is going to work. I'll need to figure out a way to decorate it. My idea was to cover it with river rock -- somehow. But I really like the branch and driftwood idea. I wonder how wide it needs to be.

The frog in my pond never drown. They can sleep with their head out of the water and their legs hanging down.

The tadpoles are like bobbing golf balls. They lie on the bottom and come up to the top for air every few minutes.

Doesn't need to be wide, just adequate footing. I have a piece of driftwood about 3" in diameter - they'll find it.

Depending on how big your pond is you could consider an 'island' (floating, or just a flat rock above water on a milk crate) to give them a place to sit too.

If you have an above ground Stocktank (like I do) then once the frogs jump out how do they get back in? There are plenty of floating things inside the pond to rest in but little on the outside as the edges are up in the air.

They're pretty good at climbing things, Rita. I see them clinging to the side of the house every morning, going after critters drawn to the porch light. :)

I have a drift wood "escape rout". My water comes within 2" of the top of the pond so the frogs/toads can get out but littel critters that may fall in can usually find the driftwood to get out.

I put a rock on the edge of my lotus pond so they can get out. I saw one clinging to the same lotus pad for 3 days before I realized he couldn't get out.

I am amazed at how high they can jump, just out of water, without standing on anything. They also jump up to my stocktank from the ground. I don't think you have to worry about them. But if you think they really can't get out, I would put a floating milk crate in there. That's what I do, until my plants get big enough for them to sit on.

can frogs move on fabric such as carpet?

I use a piece of the outside ((walls) of an old 4’ deep above- ground swimming pool. its rough and they can grab onto it. It works for me because I can hide it under the bridge.

However, I recently lost a frog that was new to the pond. I’m searching for another option that’ll be easy for newcomers. The frogs that live at the pond are grown and too heavy for the lilipads.
