My koi eat anything they can get their mouth around, including small fish, snails, bugs, and tadpoles. I feed them well and even provide greens, buth they're real hogs. Cheryl

Thanks for the feedback seamommy. I must say I am disappointed that more people have not responded with their comments. Maybe they thought the question was too dumb to deserve an answer? But, I thought that was the purpose of this forum -- to exchange ideas and to offer help by sharing our experiences with ponding. As far as my desire to add koi to my pond, I will have to think about it awhile as I would hate to impose a sentence of death on my smaller fish by adding more predators than I already deal with.

Never had my koi eat smaller fish, I have minnows in both of my large ponds also fantail goldies and mosquito fish, they eat there own eggs but never other fish. Snails go fast as well All in all koi as good community fish. Kind of a slow forum so I only check in now and then. Mollies don't winter over in cold places. Try a couple see what happins.!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. It's interesting how many different opinions are expressed as each person seems to have a different experience mixing koi and other fish. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it to see what my experience will be. BTW, the mollies winter well here in Clearwater, FL and as I said earlier, I'm glad they breed like flies as I am able to trade the offspring for credit at my local pet shop.

I have recently built my own pond and am thinking about buying some koi and mollies to put in it together. I have heard that they go well because the mollies clean the pond/aquarium by eating away the algae therefore a better environment for the koi but am not sure whether they would attempt to eat eachother.

What has your conclusion become Itakachuch?
