It probably will do fine if it was properly cared for but I would run it for a while in another container of water to make sure it doesn't harbor anything nasty or is damaged in some way.

In the meantime I would start saving for a new pump.

Shalom - good idea to run it a bit to see it it's okay, is the flow rate okay compared to your old pump? I have 2 pumps that i switch between routinely

I would say clean the pump well and hook that puppy up. A 2hp pool pump would use a lot of juice running 24/7. Depending on the size of the pond, you may be able to go smaller. i have a 6000gal pond and use a 10000GPH torpedo pump and it cycles the pond every hour.
