This rose has undergone rigorous testing to find the best yellow rose for Texas. I don't know how it'd do in other states though. I graduated from college in Nacogdoches where it was found so that's pretty much why I bought 4 in garden bed.

I'm sure it would do just fine for me here in North Florida. I have good black soil not the sandy soil everyone hears about in Florida. Did you buy it at a local nursery or mail order it?

It's a modern Florrie. Sure looks a lot like Sunsprite or Sunflare.

Jeri, do you have a picture of Nacogdoches rose? Isn't it as yellow as the one in the pic?

Sunsprite does NOT do well for me here.

I want Nacogdoches! The picture I saw of one looks sooooo pretty, yellow and disease resistant!

If it rains enough it makes good mud pies. Why? I meant that usually everyone associates Florida with white sand. I'm lucky enough that my property used to be a cow pasture...LOL

I'd kill for good black soil. I live on limestone rubbles. Yuk. You can turn clay into very excellent soil on organic program. My mom's in Houston is very wonderful soil with full of earthworms. Drains very well, etc. The trick is not to have a bare ground at all. Bare ground makes it much worse.

Last year, the rose was being sold at selected nurseries across Texas. I think it was to gauge how much interest there is for this rose before it becomes available widespread in April when it officially becomes Texas Superstar plant and being renamed as Grandma's Yellow rose (I much prefer Nacogdoches).

If you want to give it a try and see how it goes, you can order one from Chamblee's. Antique Rose Emporium sells them but for some reason not online.

BS resistance is one of the reason for Nacogdoches winning out the yellow rose contest but that's for Texas. Who knows what would happen in Florida. Couldn't hurt to try it and find out. It didn't seem to have any BS problem. Iceberg is another story...

I have seen local nursery selling these roses grown by ARE. I'm not sure why it's not listed on the website though.
