I think the door is beautiful as well ... but the question was what color should I paint my door so that was my suggestion. I wonder if they are getting a different door? Maybe this door is warped. Just a thought!

I believe in painting EVERYTHING, but not in this case! I would NOT paint this door. It's too perfect as it is.

If you are craving color at your entrance, consider purchasing two large european-style urn planters in a very bold color and fill with plants - you seem to have a green thumb. In the colder months - provided you have those where you live - the urns could be filled with branches of evergreens and holly. The planters could be almost any color you desire - but NOT orange. My vote for the planters? Cobalt or royal blue. But, pick YOUR favorite.

If you decide to go with the two large planters, consider removing the smaller wire planters you've attached to the house and maybe some of the smaller plants on the steps. Sometimes fewer larger pieces have more impact than a collection of several smaller items. Your house number could be painted the same color as the planters which would give the numbers more impact. They seem a little "lost" up there.

This would be a very "classy" look for your entryway.

By the way, are the shingles on your roof gray, black or blue?

I wouldn't paint the door either, so pretty, but since the area seems dark, if you are trying to bring it out, make it stand out, re-do your lighting. Make your light stronger and use a solar light so you can leave it on all day. Solar light panels can be set up on your roof out of sight and the wiring run down to your door alcove so not messy looking.

I also think that door is perfect the way it is, this is a door I would not paint at all but would follow some of the great ideas you have here already. Better lighting and less is more when it comes to planters.

You might have to paint the planters yourself with a rust-resistant spray paint as it could be difficult to find them in the color you desire.

Thanks for the great ideas! Looks like I will go back and touch up the door. Door is original to the house and too expensive to get a custom replacement. I like the style, it just needs a bit of attention.

Here's what cobalt blue (the planter) and royal blue (the door) look like with red brick. (Don't use both colors though. The two blues don't look great together.)

Definitely look into getting the door refinished if that's what it really needs.

Ah! I agree the door is gorgeous as it is! What if you only painted the frame black for some contrast?

Interesting idea Harrison, I like it! I agree with most of the comments above to NOT paint the door. A new coat of stain and as Harrison recommended above, pop it with painting the trim black trim.

Why don't you get a darker (mahogany, or expresso) marine varnish & keep the wood look and feel just make it much darker.

I just looked at photo 2. I would also paint the ivory trim around entry darker. It stick out like a sore thumb. You could get a paint the matches the mahogany and it will tie the whole entry area into one.
