Not sure whether Orange or Light brown??? Thoughts ??

my new house has wall color that looks very similar to this in the kit/dining area. I am working on this area (everything really) and playing with color ideas.I am leaning toward accents in both a dark mustard type yellow and a brownish red. I have a dark yellow right now in the adjoining living room-(see pic-its homemade butterscotch from Glidden). I am worried about the darkness of the colors as well (in both rooms actually and also the problem with the contrast of them with all the white trim in my house). Can't wait to hear what others think you should do!

Of course, you could also balance off the warm colors with a soft blue or blue grey.

Any thoughts about lamps? 2 identical table lamps on the side tables or one table lamp and one floor lamp?

The bright orange and tan/white combo seems like it would well with the green and brown. IT seems the color pop that would provide would give it a more upbeat lively feel.

I don't know how to insert a photo from this site into this discussion, but there is what I think is a nice soothing combo using a light blue with green and brown from the
Chelle Design Group -you can search under photos using terms green walls blue accents and dark brown. Its the 3rd picture.

Michiigammemom is right about using all three. In proper balance, of course. Use pieces that have at least two of the colors. No solids. Create "visual texture" with your blend of colors. Widow treatments (panels on rods) will soften the dark colors and fabric will give coziness to the room.

You do have good ideas.....maybe mostly creams, with a touch of some texture in wicker, etc.....then a pop of orange in pillows and/or vase etc...

something that pops - maybe a burnt orange or deep red, with texture, print. Basic space is nice but it needs more personality. Choose something interesting that you love.

The photo below is not for everyone, but it certainly 'brightens' up the room that has a dark leather sofa.

Since you're having all neutral colors, any color that you decide to bring in will work, but for sure the orange and beige would be a great option. Also, it would help if you have a brighter area rug. Good luck!

I would go for orange. Orange is an uplifting color.

With your brown furniture and forest green walls, I think sky blue accents would be perfect. Hey, it worked for Mother Nature. There is something so soothing about a space with those colors living in harmony.

how about two table lamps, but not identical, just same family. Many companies make groups of lighting fixtures that are basically the same idea but have variance. Matching is good for shoes, not so much for lamps!

also, don't know how much space you have, or what budget constraints, but I would suggest moving the couches apart a bit, opening up the space, and putting something larger for a corner table. That way, you could do a lamp and a large colorful plant in a container with whatever color scheme you decide to use.

For what its worth, I agree with the idea of putting something taller or of more substance in the corner between the couches.

I like Dytecture loft color - blue and brown are perfect companions - the yellow rug brings life and of course the most important is lightening, lots of it .... nice pic. beautiful room.

some red- like in your family photo. red leather or suede floor pillow or a red & brown garden stool/side table or throw with red or big round dish on the table? I love the paint - is it BenMoore Spanish Olive?

It works well to have different lamps same shade, or same lamps different shades. Or same table different lamps same shade, or should I go on? Similar in style or shape is good. Different creates interest so vary elements as much as you dare (in the end it is really up to you). I will say though that drum shades are very modern and look great on any lamp. As for colors I would interject orange or yellow (as Dytecture suggested), they are warm, bright and cheerful colors. Consider the other colors as neutrals and use them as much as you want.

You are so on the right track. I'd use all 3 -- the cream and light brown will work well to soften the dark leather and connect it to the rug, and make the room cozy and serene, but you want a little punch of color to give it a little life and playfulness. Your room is going to rock!! Love it!!

If you look at a color wheel, red-orange is complementary with your wall color but what is more interesting to me is the triad colors: yellow-orange and red-violet. I think either or both would look fabulous and brighten the space a great deal.

I would consider moving the love seat. If it were opposite the sofa or on the other side of the sofa (away from the wall) you would not read so much dark. You would also eliminate the awkward 2 1/2 feet of wall space above the love seat and below the high window. You could add bookshelfs or some other focal point to that wall to bring out its potential instead of accentuating its flaws.

Not sure how dark the walls are?? I've been told every room needs a bit a red.
How about some textured pillows with red print, a bright red object (your taste) or red flowers on that coffee table?
Or what about yellow?

Orange and cream would be nice but I think cranberry would work well in there also.
