Looks like they quit just when the firewood was gettin' good.
In a few years the Woodpeckers will love those trees.

For more of same...

Here is a link that might be useful: BAD PRUNING GALLERY

speculating..

maybe they are going to come along with a logging type truck.. grab the thing.. cut it once.. and pop it on the truck and be done with it ...

no ID specialist.. but it doesnt look like hardwood firewood trees...

maybe conifer ... off to the paper mill???

would be curious if you run back thru there in the future.. whether they will be gone

if they dont finish the job.. they are going to be back there next year .... so i suspect the job is not finished.. rather than a bad job ..

Looks like they were pruned with idea of just keeping branches off the lines. Some compannies have policies against actually cutting the trees down but not pruning the h_ll out of it.
Perhaps it has something to do with the trunk being the intrinsic value of the tree in terms of timber.

Stubs are the first sign of an amateur pruner.
If those trees are to be loaded on a self loading logging truck those stubs will have to be removed.
It hurts to look at those trees.

But you know, it WOULD be really cool if a wood carver went wild on them and turned them into actual totem poles...

Most utility pruning/clearing isn't done that way - perhaps they couldn't get a weight permit, the equipment for the bole was broken, who knows.

Dan

are you guys missing the fact that they are conifers ... as far as i can see ... topped and de-nuded... they are NOT going to re-sprout... they are as good as dead ...

or am i seeing something you arent???

i dont claim an ID prowess ... so i could be wrong.. but they sure look like pine, abies or picea trunks to me ...

Because they are lined up so straight, and because they all seem to be the same age, I have to wonder if they had been planted.

Regardless, they are in the wrong spot and have to go.

You're right Ken they are conifers. I'm pretty sure they were pine.
