I know nothing about trees, but just purchased a Modesto Ash and another Ash (can't recall the name!)

We need trees that grow fairly fast and can tolerate SoCal heat and some freezing in winter. Any suggestions?

Have acreage, but would like to know what trees are ok to plant fairly close to the house or garage that is unattached.

Do Ash trees get diseases or bugs? We haven't planted them and have the option of returning them if needed.

Love, love , love the Crepe Myrtles, but they seem like might be slow growers? Price?

Oh, we are on a budget so unfortunately price will come into play.
