Drought?

Any weedkiller sprays applied nearby which could have drifted onto it?

PS spellcheck: 'Kanzan'. The 'w' is an all-too-common spelling error.

I did spray Bayer 3in1 Insect Disease and Mite control about two weeks ago. We had a fairly good rain through Spring although it has been dry the past two weeks. I did deeply water already this week. This tree has been in the front yard for seven years and I have never needed to water it previously no matter how dry it got. I haven't seen anything like this before. I can't see any bug activity on the tree. I was prespraying the tree to try and stay ahead of the japanese beetles that have arrived this week. None of my other trees have dropped leaves except the Cherry. I am at a loss as to what to do. Should I just let it all drop and wait again until next Spring for it to rebud out? This was my best growth year ever so it is a real shame the leaves are dropping in July.

I'm sure no fan of prophylactic spraying for an insect not known to do much more than cosmetic damage to a tree. I'm also not crazy about seeing imidicloprid in over the counter products. I have used it in greenhouse applications and it is effective, but I suspect we are covering the earth with it by now. It is a most useful tool for whitefly control, but what are we going to use with this low toxicity when they all become resistant to it? I am also not convinced that the early claims it does not translocate to the blossoms have been adequately substantiated.
