House is heritage 1849 Ontario Gothic farmhouse (true 1 1/2 story) built entirely of stone (40ft wide by 20ft long). Main floor has 2 rooms: living room, central stairs to sleeping area, and kitchen/dining room. When you walk in the front of the house, you are walking into diningroom/kitchen. Due to a waterpipe explosion, were required to remove 1980s reno cabinetry -- and revealed the original Rumsford cooking fireplace (original brick is 6ft wide and runs hight of room 9ft)!
Now, the1980s island (with sink & dishwasher) doesn't work with the space, bisects the room weirdly, interferes with flow -- and looking for ideas to reorganize the kitchen/dining room space. The house has original large & low windows (1m/3ft from floor, 3x6 foot windows) - one facing north, one facing south, and has a radiator (source of heat) in front of the window in the kitchen (not moveable at this time). Only counterspace currently are 2, 1.5 ft spaces on either side of stove (east wall, beside fireplace). Have a small kitchen cart I use!
Fireplace sits in centre of east wall (20ft). Combined space of kitchen/dining is approx 12x20 ft!

Want to create this room as the 'hearth of the home" -- and a warm place to gather, cook, store things, entertain and hang out. It is built from a 1837 plan, (English Cottages & Farmhouses). It has a feminine vibe whereas the living room (west side of house) feels more 'masculine". The home has NO official storage/closets - so don't have tonnes of extra stuff to store. While I love modern - the house demands eclectic farmhouse, and want to renovate to make it feel like it has always been that way, with modern appliances! But where to move sink - available wall with window has the radiator. Budget is limited, we had anticipated to renovate this space in 5 years! Husband is contractor so can do much of work.
