What kind is it? Some lantanas are extremely hard to over-winter. There are two ways to do it. (1) Let frost kill it. Don't cut the dead stems until spring. Mulch the crown near the ground with leaves. Around April 1, blow away the leaves. (2) Let frost kill the leaves. Cut the stems. The stems are hollow and water will get down the stems to the crown and freeze so you need to fill a plastic flower pot wil chopped leaves and cap it down over the pruned crown. Remove around Aril 1. Since I am officially in zone 7 I do #2. My yellow/orange and my pink/cream lantanas have been coming back for years.

Mine come back on their own - with me doing # 1 - but i am in zone 8 - and i do mulch heavily.

In your area, you could plant it now, and follow the instructions per #1. Don't fertilize it! Lantana should have no problem in your location.

thanks for the tips. i have wintered other types with no problems- my lavender didn't even lose its leaves last winter. i am going to get this in the ground and do as advised
