Bamboo is overall a decent product. It can scratch and if it's gouged, splinter. My issue with it is that it's not easily repaired or refinished like a hardwood. If you are interested in that look, I would take a look at bamboo laminates. Otherwise a natural maple should give you the coloring of bamboo.

I agree with @Ct Design Studio. Bamboo is a very delicate wood and can easily be scratched with dogs, cats, etc. An engineered wood stained properly can still give you the same affect that you were looking for. Depending on your budget, there are a lot of options you could do instead of bamboo! Hope this helps - Vince Fratantoni

I've never tried it, but I've heard good things - but then again people are paid to say good things.

I would still prefer good local materials.
