If the bulbs are still good (not mushy or dried...they should feel firm with a gentle squeeze), then you can still plant them. Put a handful of bonemeal in the planting hole.

Bulbs can indeed go bad; but as mentioned before, if they are not soft and mushy, or overmouldy; they should be fine.

Any advice on keeping bulbs for an extended period?

Yes, keep them on the cool side and dry. Many people hang them in a pantry area or cool garage in onion bags (those net bags) for awhile, until ready to plant. You must check them every so often and not let them get wet or damnp at all; but they can be held for quite awhile like that. Alternately, you can hold them in some sawdust under the same conditions for awhile. You an also "heel them in" some shallow earth until ready to plant in their permanent homes. This works best nearer to planting time, however.

Thanks for the info. I am not clear though on one thing. Since the recommended planting time for my zone is Jan-Feb is it too late to plant them now or should I store them as mentioned above until next season?

Now I really have a problem. The seed company has finally mailed my tuberoses to my daughter's house in Austin. I had resigned myself to giving her a shipment of glads since I bought a package in Jan. plus have located sellers at the local Tuesday Market.

However the tuberoses I have found locally have no scent.

I am not going to be in Austin untiL late August and I really would love to have these........

There really isn't a cool place in Austin to hang bulbs in untill August.

I won't do this again since they mail so late even based on Texas planting times.

Dante, plant them now. They may still come up this year.

Guavagto, plant your tuberoses in 1 gallon pots and let them grow. Water and fertilize as you would any container plant. They should be fine and may even have flower stalks in August.

Thanks Wanda. I was thinking about it anyways. There are 5 bulbs in the bag and one or two of them already have sprouted inside the bag. Gonna go buy some bone meal and plant them today.
