I'm in USDA Zone 9 and SWGB Zone 16 (almost 17).

I've seen it in gardens around here but it doesn't seem to last as well as I've seen it in Washington and Michigan.

I used to think it was a too-much-water-in-the-summer thing but Washington and Michigan blow that theory all to heck.

I'm thinking that this Persian bulb (and its hybrid) need just a slap of winter cold to do well.

They don't grow for me at all. Well, that's a lie- they usually bloom the first year and the second year they either bloom on the ground in the foliage or stop blooming altogether.

On the other hand, I can grow supermarket green onion flowers like nobody's business. Too bad they are dull off-white shaggy masses instead of gorgeous purple balls of bliss.

Heck, Allium christofii self sows all over for me. I haven't tried the other one. I'm in the Sacramento Valley.
