Help identify this bush/small tree

There is a plant growing in the parking lot of my church that I can't ID, I hope someone here can help me name it.

In this inland valley of Los Angeles it is briefly deciduous. It has bark very similar to a crepe myrtle but it does not bloom. It has fleshier, larger leaves than a crepe myrtle, vaguely similar to some of the ornamental figs. It is probably 20 years old and although it has been pruned some it is about 8 feet tall. I really like it and would like to know what it is. Can anyone help? Here is the entire view. I'll follow with a closeup of the leaves and the trunk.
