Autumn Joy Sedum

I've read that a method to keep Autumn Joy from getting too "top heavy" and falling over is to pinch it back. I don't know when to do this. I read that it should be done in June but the article isn't zone specific. I'm in 7b, almost 8, so I'm wondering if maybe I should go ahead and pinch now in mid May. Any ideas fellow gardeners?

Yesterday I cut the top 10" or so off each one of mine because they were already 2'+. I then stuck all the pieces I trimmed into some turned soil and mulched. For good measure I dipped the end of each cutting into rooting hormone but it's not really necessary. I just felt conventional.

So now the originals ones won't flop over and will bush out more and I get a whole bunch of new plants. Keep them watered and give some miracle grow once in awhile. I also mulched well.

Thank you, Bumblebeez! Mine aren't quite 2' yet but I'll go ahead and cut them back. I've already discovered how easy it is to get new plants. Couldn't be any easier.

Where are you in SC, if you don't mind me asking? I'm in Columbia.
