after pruning an adenium

After a desert rose has been pruned, is it ok to put it back out in full sun or should it have shade for a few days? What about water? A lot, a little, or none until it starts to releaf (is that a word?)? I left a few small branches at the base and they have leaves. Thanks.

This is only my opinion but when I pruned my Drose, I put mine under a palm tree where it got diffused sunlight, in-between the palms fronds. I'm sure your weather is just as hot if not hotter than mine(FL). If it was mine, I would put in under a tree where it gets morning/partial sun, try to avoid the afternoon direct sun. I watered mine when it needed it. When the soil is dry I water well, then let the soil dry out. Mine is potted in very fast draining soil...If you trim it in the fall, it can probably handle more sun and less water. Good Luck!

I have to ask...Why are Adeniums pruned? Does it help with flowering? Thicker growth?
I have about 9 Adeniums, but never pruned..Am I supposed to? Thanks, Toni

Thanks Puglvr! I'll do that. We are having very hot weather!

Toni, my adenium had long stems or branches that were shriveled looking and way too flexible. It had put on two and three sets of leaves on the ends of the stems and I guess maybe the weight was making the stems bend. I'm hoping that by pruning (which I did last night) the stems that grow now will be sturdy.

The tops of the stems have been saved and in a few days I'll try to try to root them. I have no clue about doing that but I've gotten information by reading on this forum. I've enjoyed reading the forums and am constantly learning new things!

    Toni,

You don't have to prune it if you don't want too...its all a matter of preference, what shape, size you like. I've mentioned before that I prefer the shorter/wider/fuller look to the taller lanky style. I probably have trimmed mine 4-5 times since I've had it in almost 4 years. I've attached some pics before and after pics, so you can see how much fuller and more branches that grew, and of course more branches produced more flowers...HTH

Had scales, sprayed,(all leaves fell) so I whacked it!

    Re: pruning

certain varieties develop lanky growth and are pruned to remain neat, other varieties need pruning to stimulate new inflorescence formation

it's hard to make generalizations but usually it's just personal preference

Pug, your Drose looks absolutely stunning! I really love it.

I have a question: what do you call the two green bushes in the first photo? I have similar bushes in my Saigon garden but never know its name (in English).

    Thank you.

Thanks Xuan!! Appreciate it very much...the two small bushes that I think you are asking about are called
    "Ixoras".

I pruned my adenium about 20 days back and no new leaves have sprouted. My balcony doesn't get direct sunlight though it's well lit. I haven't watered it as yet. What should I do to help the leaves to sprout?
