Something Munching Away at Fireworks

It is a mystery. I bought a clematis Fireworks about two months ago and planted it by my mailbox. Every morning I get the mail and look for blooms. I see a few and I am so excited to the see them open. The next day, they are GONE! This keeps happening with every single bloom. I am worried that I will never see a bloom. Any ideas on what could be causing this? How to stop it?

Grab a flashlight after dark and look on the plant for earwigs. They are horrible this year. Insecticidal soap sprayed directly on the little buggers kills them. Be careful not to spray any flies you may see sitting on the leaves; they are predators and will kill earwigs.
