Mine aren't climbing chicken wire, they are flopping. Have you had to hand tuck these through?

No tucking involved - they wrap and cling to it like crazy. Of all the clematis I have, only one has not taken to the chicken wire - I think it's arabella, but of course it's the only one I misplaced the tag of, and it doesn't seem consistent with the images I find of it online. To be honest, I'm not very impressed with its looks, and may end up replacing it with a nice white, to add some more contrast to my wall. Will see how it does next year. The bottoms of all my plants are surrounded by chicken wire, ironically enough, to protect them from chickens I had running around.

Arabella doesn't cling to anything. She is a non climbing integrifolia group member.

I have four that do climb on chicken wire and they don't climb it well at all. Drives me crazy having to tuck them in and the stems break off a lot when I do that.

is the lovely blue one Durandii?

I found the list of my ordered plants, and I am almost certain it's Arabella. It has put out some more flowers that are more stereotypically arabella since that last one was taken.

The thing is, I already knew Arabella was a non-climber, so I have no idea why I would put it on my clematis wall - must not have been thinking.
