New picture threads or keep adding to the old ones?

This Spring I plan on taking thousands of photographs of both my own conifers and various others during a few trips to some great nurseries. I'd like to share many of them but the question is would they be easier/more organized to view if they were made into new threads or should I add them at the end of last year's picture series of the various species type?

On one hand I think adding them would be great(like adding to a huge database/library), but that would also mean loading dozens or even hundreds of pictures to see the latest entries.

What would you collectors prefer? If we can agree on some standard formatting, it would make conifer research/collecting that much easier and more enjoyable.

YOU TAKE REALLY BIG PIX .... which i love... is that the kettle calling the pot black???? ... lol

but after too many ???'s and answers .. and add'l pix... even with my ultra high speed downloads.. the posts get cumbersome ...

so my suggestion is to start by linking to the old.. then add new ....

and.. you might want to kick the old back up top.. so it doesnt get dropped off the bottom ....

I agree. Do a separate post with the new ones and just add the link to the previous posts. I'm sure those on dial up would find it especially tough trying to open more than already comes across. Appreciate all the pictures you put up and it helps some of us see larger sizes of things out there and look forward to the new ones.

I agree 100%! Start a new thread and link to the old ones. You get some wonderful pics. Thanks for all the work and time you put into it!

I plan to start posting as many as I can this spring!

Wonderful ideas. Let's try and follow that process then. I think I'll list posts as 'Cultivar photo gallery', sticking to specific genus and species(ie. 'Abies procera photo gallery'), then link up the huge posts from last year that had many great images. I think I'll try an example post this evening. Abies procera no less!

That's like one of those essay tests i used to ramble on and on about in college where there was no sense to my writing but my reasoning was to pass the class! Good job Ken... you got an "A" buddy.

If the pics are more than 1024 pixels wide, put a link to them on photobucket (or whatever host you use); don't embed them in the gardenweb pages, as very wide pics mess up the page's text formatting making it nearly impossible to read

Comments about a certain picture can be written just under the picture in Photobucket, Webshots, or another one.

Related question: why does this forum gave a gallery to which hardly anyone posts? Furthermore, why is the Am Conifer Soc website almost never used? Is it because by posting pictures here, people actually see them?

I was visiting here for a while before I even knew there was a picture gallery. So for people coming into conifers to see pictures I believe a lot would miss that link. Besides it is best here and we can discuss it without someone maybe missing it. As for links they are fine and it has put me through to some great sites but I like to see what people are really able to grow in their gardens and they provide way better pictures and more of them. If it was't for the pictures and discussion here I wouldn't have realized about staking some conifers and letting them skirt which gives me more options.
