Do you have enough light to support this planting, and are you experienced enough care for the wall. They will turn towards the light. They also may grow down, it will require trimming of course. Fertilizer, from a mist bottle for watering. What do you mean growing on their side. I will need to find that article. How large is the wall? What is it planted in? How thick? Norma

I have enough light....I live in a Mid-Century modern type of home and we have an atrium type of area which has natural light as well as fixtures for artifical help (i.e. grow lights).

The wall in the magazine was huge......but for me, I'm talking an area of about 2 ft wide by 6 ft tall.

Turned on their sides.....meaning, they made a frame out of lumber and turned the pots that the plants are growing in on their sides and slid them into the frame so they're tight against each other, stacked one on top of another so you can't see through......or maybe there's no pot at all....not sure...can't see any pots, I assumed they're there. There are hundreds of plants in there, lots of the hen and chicks variety it seems.

I wish there was a picture of it online to show but I haven't been able to find any online link for the magazine and my searches come up with nothing!

It's basically a prop, and I'm wondering if it's possible to do it so it's a permanent thing as opposed to a prop for a photoshoot.

You can try growing bromeliads, they are much easier indoors, and a spectacular backdrop can be created with them in a similar way.

No matter how good you think the lighting is inside it cannot duplicate the sun.

I couldn't find a good picture, but I saw someone make one on TV a couple months ago. Really cool project, but I suspect it *might* be too messy for indoors - it would need to drain, and, well, I wouldn't want to clean up the wall after all that water ran through!
