Best to go light on the water when it's cool, especially with your Astrophytum, so in the winter, I'd water but rarely, and then only if it's warm during the day (giving them a sip in the morning).

I live in Mesa, and mine only get watered once a month unless they receive winter rain. So set them out in some full sun for the winter.

Generally I err on the side of less water the better for cacti this time of year... not too many cacti are active winter growers. Cacti are generally summer plants. THere are many succulents who need water this time of year, but cacti are usually not one of them.

You gals are great, I hope people thank you, and follow your advise it is spot on perfect. I don't water all winter I do get some rain, and havent water since Oct 15 they may look a little tacky for a while, but really pick up after the first rain.

Thanks. I've resisted the urge to water them for the past 6-8 weeks and will try to continue to hold off on the water. I hope they continue to do well. I appreciate the help.
