stormy weather

Last night we had an inch of rain fall in less than 30 minutes, along with lightning, hail, and 80 mph winds.

Here's what this morning looked like.

Leaves from Populus tremuloides and Acer saccharinum against the fence.

Sheared conifer foliage.

Picea engelmannii with damaged top

Broken stem on Pinus aristata.

Pinus sylvestris with a few dropped needles and cones.

This Metasequoia glyptostroboides didn't fare too badly. Others were completely stripped of foliage.

Lily

Pinus strobiformis graft, a goner. Although it pushed new growth and seemed healthy, it looks like the union was weak and the hail finished it off.

Pseudotsuga menziesii graft, bud and needles sheared from scion.

Pseudotsuga menziesii graft (weeper), another weak union I imagine.

Most of the grafts held up under the hail (or at least the damage is not yet apparent).
