A pine of some sort. Can you add a close-up? How many needles per cluster? Where was it found? ("woods next to their house" doesn't provide any useful information!)

If it's growing wild in the Southeastern US, it is likely one of the "yellow pines", subsection Australes.

In zone 6B it could be Shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata), Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda), Virginia pine (Pinus virginiana), Pitch pine (Pinus rigida) or Table Mountain Pine (Pinus pungens). It's hard to tell them apart when they're young, and they all hybridize where their ranges overlap, so it could easily be a hybrid. If you really want to know, look at what the mature parent trees look like in the vicinity of where you found this sapling and then compare the mature form to pictures of each of those species. You can also narrow down choices by looking at maps of the native ranges of each of those species and seeing if they are documented to grow natively where you found this seedling.

It has 5 needles/bundle...the best I can discern from the photo.

If you're in eastern North America, it's probably White Pine.

"strobus" for me also, looks very typical

i would move it again.. in fall ... or spring ...

do not wait until its 3 or 5 feet tall ...

no matter what pine it is.... its 20 to 30 feet too close to the house ... unless its one of the rather small scrub pines ...

Thanks for the info. The tree is located in central NJ and there are several pinus strobus and pinus sylvestris trees in the area. Going to try and convince the inlaws to let me move it to a bed further from the house in the fall.
