get rid of the little table and add something on the walls..The walls need color

Just love the colour scheme. I have similar in my master. Would love to see a picture of another angle to include the head board, night stand etc. Do you have a dresser in the room.? I have dark almost black wood furniture and it really plays well with the grey and peacock. Also pewter/ silver frames and accessories. Billowing white drapes would also be a nice touch and keep the airy look. I agree the rug is too small.

A small touch of orange somewhere? Maybe in the curtains and add a floor lamp w/ orange shade? I'm not interior designer. I just watch Nate Berkus alot!

@lorilox would love to see pics of your room! I definitely need a dresser! Its a guest room, I was trying to get away without having one, but the room NEEDS it! There are silver frames and some nice stacks of books on both bedside tables. The bedframe is antique, small scale but beautiful and painted white

I would add a coordinating peacock blue plaid valence with some textured white or silver drape panels. And if you could pick up a little orange in the plaid, would add that other color, then you could pick it up in an accessory or two. Maybe a nice round , or square mirror turned to be diamond shaped on the wall, ( or artwork) to add more dimension.
Overall, I think you did a GREAT job on your room. It doesnt need much at all.

I would love to see curtain rods hung just an inch or two beneath ceiling height with a nice lime or gold drape to the floor.. Match to accent shade in the patterned pillows. I think it would definitely solve the vertical issue. Great start!!!

I would consider going with a color for your curtains...something bold...maybe long, lime colored raw silk hung at the ceiling and going all the way to the floor? It would pick up on the color in the pillows, but really pop...and an accent somewhere in red or orange. Not a lot, just something like a pillow that would really pop. I think that with tall eye-catching curtains, a pop of contrast, and a little wall art this room will be beautiful. I like what you have so far.

I have to get my son ready for bed so I don't have a lot of time to browse sites, but here are a couple of rug choices for you. I personally like rug studio.com for pricing and quality. Great selections, I purchased my living room rug from them and was very happy. You don't have to fill the room, just big enough to go under the bottom feet of the bed and up high enough to the headboard so you step on it in the morning. The first one is more traditional with two contemporary. I personally like the contemporary ones. With added crown molding, curtains, art and lamp you can do color on the rug, just not too loud. I've had the same problem when I tried to introduce "accent" colors.... It ends up looking like you bought a few pieces and added them.... Love the ideas mentioned above, especially a dark grey high dresser, and the silver accents (lamp, mirror). I also agree you need some art - it you can't afford art, how about some teal fabric adhered to a piece of styrofoam? You need the power of 3's, grey and white are pretty neutral, so I would pick a color from the pillow with the (is it) yellow?

Floor to ceiling curtains that cover the entire window wall (white). Free standing full length mirror with a shiny metallic frame in the left corner placed on an angle. Paint the rattan chair a punchy contrasting color (like orange or coral) and recover the seat cushion with white or cream colored fabric. Paint the bedside table with high gloss black paint, get a great bedside lamp or some wall sconces and a nice big plushy area rug to tie all the colors together.

Hi there I really like the bed cover and that little ceramic table. Those two items are really compatible. I would find a long narrow openwork maybe cane table that completely went over the heater. It would have to be safe, very open work even if you needed to remove a glass top of something for air circulation then you could put some items on it and you would have a place to rest books, cups of tea etc while sitting in the large chair. A tall reading lamp would be great beside this chair. Take the large cushion off this chair and replace it with the smaller lumbar support one from the folding chair. Fold and store away the small folding chair. Put tall shelving or narrow dresser to the right of the smaller window after removing the small rectangular table and lamp (maybe the lamp can be used as a bedside lamp)

Is that a blanket box at the end of the bed? If it is I would find other ways to store extra bedding and leave that space free. Move the floor rug to the side of the bed. Move the ceramic table further away from the corner chair as you won't need to use it as a table any more and put a fish bowl or octagonal fish tank on it. Its hard to resolve the other items at the head of the bed as there is no view from the other direction. I think I would keep the plain cushions but not the patterned ones but find a softer coloured patterned throw in harmony with the plain teal one. I would not keep this on the bed but keep them folded on a shelf as a splash of colour and pattern easy to grab if you need one.
Put the artwork on the wall beside the large window and the mirror over the fish tank. Move the waste basket to behind the top end of the bed.

I am a curtain hater! I would not do anything on the windows, Just leave the blinds.

The room needs something with some height like a tall dresser. everything in the room is low to the floor in scale. Yes, curtains in the room would help soften the windows. take out some of the small items on the floor. Remove a chair and the two things on top of the radiator. The jade is pretty but there is too much of it scattered in the room. Less can be more lovely.

An area rug that fits prat of the way under the bed would be nice also.

I would look for a paler turqoise curtain (more like a spa blue) and consider edging it in the gray/taupe of the duvet. Part of the problem, as others have said, is that your contrast is too high. You need to add in a mid-tone to bring everything together. If you could, I would consider using split bamboo shades instead of the miniblinds to bring the wood floor tone up on the vertical. I would do a large sisal-look rug (but one easy on the feet); your small rug might even work layered on top of this. After you have all the big items in place, THEN add your accent color. I do think that either yellow or orange would work well, since they are the complementary colors, or you could stick with the green you have in the pillow - 2 of these. BTW, I love that garden stool! I would keep that and the bamboo arm chair and the white bird (peacock?) sculpture (this might look great on top of the chest of drawers and add even more height). Take everything out and add it back in one item at a time after you have everything else in place. Adding some lamps/lampshades in either the spa blue or the accent color would be nice. The key to making a room look pulled together is to repeat your colors/accents so that the eye moves around the room (right now it lands on the peacock throw) and to add texture (which I think you already have a good start on). The room has good bones and I like the colors you have, but I would add a pop of the mustard /yellow color that you have in the pillows...especially in the window treatments. I would get a larger rug that also has yellow in it and put it on the side of the bed. The scale and type of print on the rug is too similar to the pillows and doesn't give the bedroom interest. What about getting rid of the tiny chair to the left of the window and putting a tall lingerie chest that is lower than the window to give some height. Then try a tall picture above the chair on the right with a
lamp on the table for balance. I would also put the small mirror and picture somewhere else. It doesn't seem to make sense there. I hope my suggestions help...good luck

there is no balance you have little things everywhere there is no focal point and the neutrals are together while the colour are together switch it up, put up window treatments and two identical wall arts on either side of the window to bring upthe eye

Kathryn Peltier, I LOVE the idea of natural texture (bamboo) blinds!!! That resonates with me, as I have never liked the white wood blinds (they are in every room of the house, there when we purchased it).
The little folding chair is all wrong in scale and will be leaving the room. What I loved about it was the color and texture. It has weathered naturally outside and the raised grain and beautiful natural silver gray it turned was SO appealing to me. But I totally agree that its not working. I think I will find a way to bring more weathered wood (driftwood?) into the room in another form.

This discussion has really helped me clarify my point of view!! Seriously amazing to hear from so many people and get such great feedback!!! I feel completely re-energized and I can't wait to get back to work in there now!! Thanks again to everyone. Even when I disagreed with a suggestion, it helped me define exactly what type of look I am going for. But there have been SO MANY really great suggestions that I know the room is going to turn out great with all of your help!

I agree with others: get a large area rug with a pattern to introduce more color; add floor length curtains; get a tall chest. The other furniture is too tiny for the room. The bed dominates the room, and all those small chairs and tables doesn't give the room balance, they just take up space.

It looks like you and I have the same taste in colors. I just recently redid our master bedroom. I am attaching some photos so that you can see what I did. I hate our bed frame but other than that I love the color scheme. Here are the materials used
1.paint color is Benjamin Moore “gray timber WC”
2.Bedspread is from target. Ours is a king for less than 100. It includes the pillows and everything.
3.lamps are from target
4.wall hanging above the bed is from target
5.the white wall hangings are from home goods
6.curtains are from target for $8 a piece

here is what I would do,
•I would reposition the bed so that it is furthest away from the main entrance. This way as soon as you go into the room, you are staring at the focal point and not the radiator. I would reposition it so that it is facing the window on the left.
•I would purchase two matching night stands preferably a brown color and two lamps with white shades. I personally love contemporary but you can pick any style you like
•The major impact lies in the bedspread and headboard. I personally love the one that I got from target. It is so cheap and so beautiful.
•I would install two sheer white panels on the windows. This way it frames the windows and lets in the maximum amount of light.
•Keep the one chair on the right and remove the pillow above it. Place a small floor lamp next to it for reading.
•Place two wall hanging or pictures on the opposite wall where the bed is preferably in something white.
•If you can change the color of the wall to “gray timber WC” It matches the bedspread completely. If you have a budget of less than $200, you can do all or some of my suggestions.
•If you reposition the bed, the radiator will no longer be the focal point. You won’t be staring at it as soon as you enter the room. Right now, all of my attention is on the radiator and not the size of the room or the gorgeous hardwood floors.
•One important tip. Always tuck the bedspread under the mattress. It makes the bedspread look neat and ironed.

Try bringing in some pops of yellow.

So many people have indicated you need to add "yellow". How about either lime or mint or lavender, maybe even a shrimp color for some accents. Each one would blend in nicely with the peacock blue and gray walls.

ally2012 your room is beautiful. thanks for you ideas. I have thought of putting the bed in front of the radiator, had it there for a minute one day! I might try it again. I am definitely going for asymmetry, so I have been specifically looking for individual pieces. I haven't taken a picture of the headboard because I don't like my pillow arrangement very much, but the low headboard is adorable and I am trying to figure out how to bring attention to it. In front the radiator, I fear it will get lost.
To those who have suggested yellow or lime, there is a lime/citrus bits on a few of the pillows, so I might experiment with that.

What about trying to get one of those old hospital food tables that used to be used over beds. They are made of metal tubing and are curved and go right over the bed in an arch You could put that right over the radiator to get some table and display space. Even if you put the bed in front of it you still see it when in the room and its such a space stealer.

Well I tried the bed in front of the radiator again today and it just doesn't work. it juts out into the room too much, and then the bedside tables just seem to be too far back or weirdly floating in the room. It really isn't the best look.
So then, I tried the bed under the other window. I had the bed here before we painted and found the actual bed frame. Ive attached a pic since I also rearranged and edited a bit. You can see the headboard in this pic

and roomi, no offense to your idea about the hospital stand, but I am a nurse and we still use those stands!! LOL. I could not look at it in my house without thinking of all of the things that had been on it before it came to our house!!! But that's a personal issue, not a design issue!

This looks nice - it's a better view and becomes the focal point of the room. Draperies will frame it out nicely, and a rug will show more. In fact, I might be tempted to drape that whole back wall. Does this layout use the space as efficiently?

Can you try it with the headboard against the wall that has the white statue and blue table?

Gina, my mum has one of them that we put in her nursing home room. Its sooo cool and has that groovy old basket weave laminex on top. I thought the idea might be a bit too industrial for you (probably gets you thinking about bedpans LOL) but I love rounded shapes. I think a rounded archy shape like that would catch the eye and distract from the radiator quite well, sort of put it in shadow. The bed head is interesting and I love the rounded shapes in it too.

You're off to a great start. I love your color choices and agree it is very restful. One think I see right off is a lot of small scale items. I would recommend removing everything to the left of the window and relocating the chair and side table to that side of the room. I would also recommend a floor lamp for this area to give it some height and creat a reading nook type of feel. This will help direct your eye and keep the space feeling open and airy. When you are ready for window treatments I would suggest keeping it simple. Maybe a light colored grommented drapery panel and simple rod. You can easily dress up a simple drapery panel by adding a pretty trim (in Peacock blue) around the inside edge of the panel.

Oh and the way you have it now I think the little round ceramic table/ stand would look better than the round wooden table. The picture should go on the wall above I think. Too much on that table. What about a little shelf for the books between the table top and the painting and something more practical on the little ceramic thing near the bed like a lovely yellow toned water jug and a crystal drinking glass. I bought a couple of lovely large crystal glasses from the Salvos for $2 each I think they are whiskey glasses perhaps that is why water in them puts me in such a good mood for sleep!

ally2012, the bed cannot be moved any further left, that wall is only a few feet longer past the window. Its not a big room, and every wall is interrupted by a door, closet or window/radiator.

roomi, the framed print will eventually be placed on the wall, just trying to find curtains first before I hang art. and thanks I loved this little bed when I found it on CL.

Kathryn Peltier, yes, this layout works as well, the bamboo chair remains in the same place and is still a focal point from the doorway. I was so glad to find it at the flea market, I think the curved bamboo is a nice repeat of the curves in the headboard? somehow they go together. the cushion is crazy 60's yellow and green floral, I have it covered with a scarf while I figure out real fabric (or a new cushion)

I love your peacock blue color. I hope you keep it. I think when you get curtains on your wall they can add a lot of visual interest. I agree with Kathryn above I use JC Penney.com for curtains a lot b/c they have such a variety of styles and colors. You might want to consider combining roman shades when can be pulled up to allow sunshine and a drape to the side for more visual interest. When you get photography or art on the wall, it will add or more finished look to the room. Also I know if you are an RN you may not have a lot of energy left over to go shopping ( I still work 2 12 hr shifts myself and I have 2 little white doggies like in your pic) so for decorator items consider looking on Etsy.com If you are not familiar, they are a website with all sorts of products made by artisans from the US, Canada and throught the world. They frequently can customize things for you. They have wall hangings, photography, paintings, pillows, jewelry. Just type what you want in their search engine. You can even type in peacock and items will pop up. I have a photography shop, nancyhehmann.

I like your new chair. You might want to consider painting it white to give it a more cohesive look with your headboard.
