What is this stink????

14 yrs ago we moved into this house. The builders had planted some boxwoods and ground junipers in front of one of the downstairs windows. Within the first few years i would notice a "cat urine" type smell coming from this area, especially when I would open that window. I thought it was from cats ( I didn't have any cats) but the smell continued for a few years. Then I thought it was coming from the junipers themselves and removed them several years ago.

So, last week I opened that window again to get some fresh air and that same smell comes into the room. We don't open that window often so I have tolerated this issue until now. I went outside to check it out and I can smell it when I open up the boxwoods. I do not smell it from the open window in the room above this room, so it's not something in the air. The smell cannot be coming from a cat after all these years but that's what it smells like!!! Can it be the boxwoods?? I am ready to dig them out (3), amend the area and plant some Gardenia hoping the fragrance will mask any remaing stink.

Please help with any advice you might have
