Is it possible that you have a hidden mold/ fungus source that's making the smell? Maybe it's not your bushes at all...

Are you using a mulch there that might produce the smell? Some mulches can smell very strong when wet, etc.

Its most likely the boxwoods you smell. Its a shame for an otherwise handsome plant, but that is a common description used when referring to the odor of boxwoods.

I had a similar experience with Florida Anise when I first planted some. I was not aware of their very strong and disagreeable odor when in bloom. I have since learned to almost like the smell. I rationalize that perhaps in some small way that odor acts as a deer repellent. They aren't like boxwoods though as the smell is only present when they flower.

It would be a shame to lose 14 year old boxwoods, but that smell is not something that will ever go away as long as they are there.

Yup, that's how you tell if they are actually boxwoods or japanese hollies, boxwoods smell exactly like cat urine. The japanese hollies look like boxwoods, but do not smell. The junipers probably were not the problem.

I thought that I had read something about this somewhere. I don't notice this with the other boxwoods that I have in my yard because they are around one of my flower gardens away from the house.Thanks for confirming my suspicions. After I posted this, I went out in the yard to prune things and started to cut them down. DH came home and has pulled one of them out already, so they are gonners. I pray this solves the problem. I can't believe that I waited this long to do something about it!!!
