We saw our first male Ruby Throated Hummingbird last week. Yesterday I saw a female Black Chinned Hummingbird sitting at the top of one of our Crepe Myrtles. She is using one of our feeders also. Earliest I have seen a Ruby Throat is last week of March, but usually they show up at our house around first week of April. We had a Rose Chested Grosbeak at our feeders last week, about a week earlier than we have seen before.

I love birds, especially hummingbirds.

I saw one about 2 weeks ago along with a Blue bird and swallowtail butterfly.
One I pointed it out to someone visting they said do you want me to catch it. I said yea right!!!
I have seen more Blue birds than ever this year.
Makes me think I am doing something right and all this hard work is worth it.

OHH!!! I've got to fill my feeders, too! I can't wait to have them as guests!

I hung up a new feeder on the front porch yesterday, where my wife and I could see it when looking out the glass storm door. Today I heard a school bus go by so I went to the door and started looking around the neighborhood. Suddenly a hummingbird appears at the feeder and takes four deep drinks. I made a move to go get my wife so she could see it but it saw me then and took off.

Spotted my first one of the year at my feeder yesterday!!!! Now I gotta buy more feeders ,as most of the ones I had last year are a pain in the rump to clean.The hummers do NOT care if the feeders are shaped like a farmhouse,raspberry,or lighthouse,so I'm buying just plain jane ones.Wish I could find some easy to clean ones that hang on window.With the ones I have,it's impossible to get bottle brush in!!!GRRRR....

April, here is a tip I read somewhere that makes cleaning the difficult feeders easy. Pour white vinegar in the bottle and a handful of dry, uncooked rice and then shake vigorously. Turn the bottle a few times so all sides are scrubbed clean by the rice. Then rinse really well. This trick has worked great for me.

I can't wait until the yard is buzzing with hummer activity! :)
