How big is this space? Sounds like you already have plenty of winter interest, but without measurements, it's hard to know. And keep in mind that lots of people have hosta beds with nothing but hostas, so it's okay to have nothing growing in winter.
What kind of hostas are you thinking about getting?

I have enjoyed the lenten rose(hellebores) that I have mixed in with my hosta.

hmmm...I'd guess the space is about 5'x 4' or so.

It used to not be bare bc my river birch grew all the way to the ground and covered it...but I pruned all the lower branches off the river birch so that we could see the pretty bark - but when I did it made it obvious how empty the bed is.

I bought 3 media varigata (18-24" wide with white edges) and 2 hyacinthia (24-36" wide solid green)

I had planned to put them somewhere else when I noticed this big bare patch in the middle of the bed next to my front door and decided to do this. I really hate bare areas. I fill up everything.

I think 5 x 4 is awfully small for what you already have there. Those things are all going to grow and crowd each other. I don't think you'll have room for hostas. If it looks really bare to you right now, how about filling in with annuals?

I agree with what Sugarhill said. It does sound like an awfully small area for a lot of plants. One thing I have done when a spot looks kinda bare is to put a nice, good-sized potted plant there. I have done that with a dragon-wing begonia and various hostas in spots where the tree roots are impossible to dig through, or I just don't have time to prepare the soil.

Tassle ferns (Polystichum polyblepharum) make a nice companion to Hostas and retain their color in winter.

Everything else is full grown already (except the sedum). 5x4 is the area that is empty. The entire bed is probably 12' wide or so and 8' deep I'm guessing. Its half the front of my house.

i think the evergreen ferns are a good idea. also, i have asarum splendens in with my hostas and it has attractive silvery-mottled foliage that is evergreen.
has been a slow spreader for me but finally beginning to run a bit. not a problem, though, as friends who see it want a start of it!
i have seen this plant at box store garden centers.
