I've searched the net extensively to try and find out what this pest is, to no avail. I caught him red-handed tonight and took several pictures, but they didn't turn out - but I thought I'd go ahead and pose the question here since I didn't get much feedback from the folks over in the Hosta forum.

He's brown, with no distinguishable features, and kind of almond shaped. I tried to get him onto a piece of paper but I lost him and I didn't have a flashlight, but when I looked at the leaf I could see a the beginnings of a little brown spot, like the one in the first picture.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.
