Transforming Study Into a Laundry Room - Color, design, Style help needed.

I have a study I've been using for scrap booking. I'm going to clear it out, but I have some furniture I must make use of in there because I like it, it could be useful, and I paid a lot of money for it ten years ago. I have two tables I could make use of for folding clothes. The washer and dryer are bright white and modern, only a year old. They will be moved from the kitchen. Berber carpet is 16 years old and it pretty good condition. One dilemma is that the wall units are a soft antique white distressed finish but the washer and dryer are bright white and modern. These already clash, so I don't know how to bring in a sink and other laundry things without it being a thrown-together mess. I like neat country and shabby chic if it is functional and not too cluttered. I have a contractor who will provide a plumber. I've seen lovely laundry rooms here but not sure how to make this all work.

I don't think you need to worry too much about the finish looking new on the washer and dryer since that is expected. I think you'll be able to work those in with your other finishes.

If the room is not going to be mostly a laundry room occasionally used for other stuff, like storing xmas decorations, then you could put a table/counter over the machines. You can make a little skirt/curtain to hide the appliances.

I bet you can pull the look of the modern washer/dryer in with the cabinets if you change out your cabinet knobs for something modern: something in stainless steel finish, maybe a little quirky!

I imagine you will be painting and taking down the border? I also love the shabby chic look, so I visualize another white or cream or gray/blue on the walls. But wall color is very individual!

I also have a large office/laundry room/craft room. Use the table you have for folding clothes, you might add a skirt around the bottom to hide clutter, After you paint the walls and move in the w/d, organize your supplies into baskets on those shelves. Add an office style,modern chair to go with the clean lines of the washer dryer. Try to avoid "decorating" it, it should look utilitarian and cleaned off. I would not hang pictures or use other kinds of decoration. I did that at first in mine and it looked junky, took everything out and started over. The work islands sure are nice but don't know if you are considering that. Good luck, you have good bones to work with there.
