I sure would have thought that Corpus was a zone 10! Anyway, I used to live in zone 9b southeastern coastal Louisiana. So maybe I can help with your seasons question.
In s.e. LA winter was end of December/Jan. Spring started in Feb, that's when the trees began to leaf out. And the weather got warmer. Spring continued Mar and April. In May it got hot and was summer May thru Sept. It got cooler in early to mid-October and fall was Oct to mid Dec. You really probably can garden all year there. My best advice, if you are new to that zone, and being coastal, is to get a good book for Texas or for the Gulf Coast. The Southern Living books are excellent in my opinion. Enjoy that beautiful part of the planet! I sure miss the Gulf.

Welcome to Texas. I live just up the road from you in Rockport. And we are in zone 9, not 10. Being new to the Gulf Coast, I would stronly suggest that you contact the Nueces County Master Gardeners. They will have lots of literature and advice for you at no cost. You can check out Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Itcollins1949, I actually am just south of you in Ingleside, so am very excited to look at the sites you highlighted and will definitely check out your booklet. I have started putting in foundation plantings since we bought the house in April and have learned just enough to realize I need MUCH more info. I appriciate your thoughtful response.
