Mint Care

Hi,

I'm a novice gardener, and I've recently acquired some good spearmint and peppermint. Can someone tell me how to properly care for it? I've had mint tea before, courtesy of gardening friends, but I've never grown it myself.

So if there's anything special to pay attention to, please let me know :)

Also can you tell me any precautions I should take? Such as which bugs to look out for and how to get rid of them?

Thanks.

Easy plant to "care" for. Be careful where you plant it because it will take over the area. I notice it likes a bit more shade and water than other herbs (like sage, thyme, oregano, etc.). Some people like to keep it contained in a pot which is a good idea. Once you have mint, you ALWAYS have mint - more of a weed than a herb or "garden plant".

Okay, thanks! I've seen snails around, and they've been eating a little mint. Is that okay?

The best care I have found is to regularly hack away at it with a hoe. Otherwise it takes over everything.
