Root Bound

I just replanted a new acquisition, skullcap (lateriflora) into a larger container, but it was badly rootbound. One root had wrapped itself around the outer edges a good half-dozen times.

Skullcap is a water-loving herb, but I don't know if it's like parsley, which depends on a tap root. Should I pull it back up and break up the root ball a bit, in particular, that one very long root that's wrapped itself round and round and round and...etc.

Any recommendations, advice, guidance would be appreciated.
