Curry leaf comes from a tropical tree, also called "neem" (not the same as medicinal neem, this is culinary neem). Unless you have a greenhouse, you are unlikely to be able to grow it in Toronto. If you want the fresh leaves for cooking, there are several online sources I can point you towards. They keep virtually forever in the freezer.

If you want the silvery shrub called 'curry plant', look for Helichrysum angustifolium, H. italicum. This plant should be treated in the same ways as any of the so-called Mediterranean plants (lavender, rosemary etc).

If you want the Curry Leaf Tree, look for Murraya koenigii. This is a tropical plant.

If my geography is correct, Toronto isn't the right climate for either of them, without a hothouse.

You might find the leaves of the Curry Leaf Tree in the Asian section of your supermarket. They'll be dried, and won't have much flavour, but are better than nothing in curry blends.

Neither plant can be considered a substitute for curry blends.

Murraya Koenigii can be grown in side the house in a pot.If the summer is hot enough above 70 degree F it can left out door till the temp. is above 70 F.
You may buy the plant from online nurseries.
