You can put a scented herbal sachet into the drawer with some your clothes or bed linens, for instance.

Best to start off with dried herbs, or the sachet could go mouldy. The scent will last a fair while (sometimes years, depending on the herbs used), but the sachets can be freshed up with a drop or two of essential oil, or if you add a little dried orris root powder, which helps to 'set' the perfume in potpourri etc.

You can use a pretty handkerchief to make your sachet. Sew across the top after bundling it up, and tie with a pretty ribbon. Put it in your linen closet amongst your sheets and/or towels, or in your undies or socks drawer, or hang amongst your clothes in the wardrobe. Or you can put it over the bath tap and let the water run over it when running a bath to scent the water. (The sachet will only do for a couple of baths, though.) If you put a few rolled oats into the sachet with the herbs, it will make a lovely 'scrub' bundle - oats is marvellous for the skin. You can just let the water run over it, or let it float in the bath with you.

You can put dried herbs into flat little 'envelopes' to put amongst your books to keep away pests like moths, too.

You could also use the sachet to float around in the final rinsing water when hand-washing woollens or lingerie.

If you make the sachets much larger (about the size of a baby's pillow) you can select herbs to make sleep pillows - lavender and hops flowers are relaxing; something minty is good when you've got a cold. Do some googling and see what other kinds of sleep pillows you can make - the difference is only in the herbs you use inside, but it want them just for the perfume - well, it's up to you!

I did fill the bag with fresh clippimngs but the climate here is so dry that I doubt it would mold ... but I will dry it next time I try it.

Can the orris powder be purchased at a drugstore? I shall try it to help preserve the aroma.

Hooray! I found the orris root from a local herb farm, but not sure how much to put into 1 1/2 qts. dried herbs. Any info?

The typical measurement is 1 to 2 tablespoons of fixative per 4 cups of petals.
