I've seen basil cuttings languish longer than I think they should. If they survive that period, then they just take off.

Root growth generally precedes leaf growth, so it is likely putting all energy into growing roots, and this will be followed by a flush of growth in the shoots & leaves.

Soil looks very moist, maybe back off on the watering slightly?

Thanks so much. That really explains it. I'll give the watering a rest for the next few days. Another problem might be the lack of direct sunlight. I read some reports to place it in semi-shade and others encouraging full sun. Will try the latter from now. Thanks again.

Nothing wrong with that cutting as far as I can see.

Place the cutting in "part shade" until you see definite signs of top growth - then start to move it into full sun. Once the plant starts growing, it will take as much sun as you can give it as long as you keep the soil evenly moist. That's going to be tough if you keep in in a small pot, so consider repotting it into a bigger container.

In cool temperatures, it would take for ever for the top to start growing. The plant's first priority at this stage is to concentrate on growing roots. I have done a lot of this and have lost quite few of them due to cooler weather. I have mine in the garden.

Thanks all for the advice and feedback.

I've repotted the plant into a bigger pot. You are right, there's plenty of activity going on in the soil and the roots are outgrowing its small container.
