Cold frames, cloches, and row covers can stretch out your season some. I wouldn't even try cilantro without something like that.

Thanks, but just from what I've been reading since my post is that Cilantro (a cool weather annual) can handle light frosts. I'm assuming now that isn't true? We should be getting any hard frost or temperatures below 32 until at least Thanksgiving.

Hey try it and see how it goes but remember that you need soil temperature of 60-70 degrees F for germination and 10-14 days for germination. If you're not going to cover, I'd at least use planter's paper to help keep the soil warm in order to boost germination and growth. I use it for my early spring crops with great success.

I was just thinking, my first hard frost last year was the 3rd week of October which is next week. It is hard to think of frosts when it is 80 degrees outside. :)

Vera -- The established cilantro can stand light frosts. The younger the plants when affected,however, the more likely is damage. Of course, the reduced day length will tend to slow down the growth rate compared with a summer planting. Some cover protection of the late planting will give you the best chance of success.
