Yuck to Winter

Its no where near freezing out yet so there is still much green in the garden. But winter is on its way. It always seems to take a really long time. I am a spring and summer person. I hate the cold and I love to be outside in my garden. Nothing doing in the garden now. Whatever didn't get done for this year is not going to get done and will simply wait for spring.

I know I have tried before but this time I really think I can manage and not buy new daylilies and iris for spring. The fact that I have no place to put them and no where to dig up another garden bed might have something to do with it though.

I have too many daylilies at the 600 or so current number. Next year I will move out ones that just don't do much for me. It should reduce the number here and make it possible to add new intros in the future.

My feelings, too Rita.I have always hated winter. It was 73 here today, but the cold is suppose to be here next weekend when night time temps are supose to drop to 26.Thats only 2 degrees colder then it was a week ago.I hate having to stay indoors but,I can not stand the cold.I dont know how people can stand all that snow I have been seeing on TV this week.

It's cold!!! I can't move the last of my mulch because it is frozen to the driveway. It is 0 degrees C or 32 degrees F today. There is no snow where I am in Nova Scotia...yet.

Some days here feel chilly when I go outside but it really has not been very cold yet this year. Some days are really mild like today. I guess I am just thinking lots about winter because it is on its way. But I sure am not looking forward to it. I much prefer being outside and when its cold, I just don't go out but stay inside.

Plus I put off cleaning the inside of the house all summer and going to have to really get after it all house cleaning before the holidays. Starting the big cleanups this week. And I hate house cleaning. Well, no one is coming here for Thanksgiving anyway. I just bought myself a small turkey and fixins and that will do.

Some of my roses are still blooming. And the gardenview outside my office window is lovely as the winterberries are vivid red against the still green leaves and the blue salvia is just off to the side. Looks lovely.

Amen to that, Rita. winter is just to be endured. I also plan to hold what I have in iris and daylilies. I do plan to add a few more roses, but hopefully I can enjoy the garden more and work less next year.

I can deal with winter for a couple of months, gives me a break from gardening and time to do other things...like planning for new gardens next year and winter sowing seeds for them. lol! Or, work on some writing which I ignore during the nice months. But come February, our usual snowy month, I'm ready for spring and curse at the snow as it buries us. I'm not an outdoor person come winter at all. I don't like the cold; nor do I like temps in the 90's with high humidity either. I like spring and fall.

I agree "Yuck to Winter". I am most certainly all about spring and summer!! I live outdoors in the summer, I get up with the sun and spend the entire day outside, even eat my meals in my garden. Glad I 'discovered' the auction last winter, that helped. I spend my time planning for next gardening season, catching up on reading, and going through my garden photos and trying out different brews of tea. Can't believe that I loved the snow when I was a child, cause I hate it now!! We had tons last winter, and they are predicting colder and wetter( that means snow, here) for December and January, with an early spring. I can take the early spring, just don't like the cold. Cindy.

Oh my goodness,Edward. You are really in the snow belt, aren't you,and the long winters. It dont usually stay cold here more then a week at a time, then it warms back up, and it dont snow much here either. We usually get Ice Storms here every winter, which is worse then the snow.. . well, I wish every one a happy Thanksgiving.

When Hall of Fame baseball player Rogers Hornsby was asked what he did during the Winter he famously answered, "I stare out the window and wait for Spring."

Hey, Edward. We have snow in Malagash[or had it until last night]..it rained. But there is more on the way. YoYo weather here along the Northumberland strait. Rita, I totally agree with you. I need to move stuff out [I did buy more but stuff is going. It is surprising the number of plants that simply don't perform. They're space wasting and out they go....Happy Thanksgiving to our American gardeners...and be safe...cheers, lloyd
