Congratulations! I'm still waiting, patiently...

Hi oldroser, good for you! I haven't ventured into the heirlooms or other tomatoes, I do the usual: grape, roma (for fresh sauce) and early girl..sometimes a beefsteak. I hadn't planted tomatoes for a few years because groundhogs used to get to the fruit before me. We just finished putting up a new fence for the vegetable garden, and if you can believe it...I just put my tomato transplants into the ground THIS WEEK...I think it will be a while before I am eating tomatoes this year!...

Thanks for sharing, especially how some of the other varieties taste..it may encourage me to try something new..heck, it's only a square foot or two, right? ha ha Enjoy!

We had plants FULL of tomatoes, and a few were almost ripe.

Lotsa green tomatoes, only a coupla romas ripened sufficiently to pick. This year I stuck to the small guys, and already I'm sorry :-) Roma (for sauce), San Marzano (for sundried), Yellow pear and Santa for salads and for my favorite quickie veggie:

Halve cherry tomatoes and place cut side up in a glass pieplate which has been sprayed with Pam. sprinkle with salt, pepper, finely minced basil/parsley mix, drizzle with olive oil, top with grated asiago cheese & microwave on high for 3-4 minutes, until cheese is melted - wowser!

You're ahead of me. I've got plenty of green tomatoes, but the colors are not changing. In previous years, I grew some early patio tomatoes in pots to get earlier tomatoes. I didn't feel like doing that this year, and now I'm paying for it.

I don't know what my melons will come to. The plants look nice, with loads of pretty flowers, but shouldn't I see fruit by now if I'm not going to run out of season?

The funniest thing this year, is the winter squash growing in my compost pile. If the melons are a no show, at least I may have some squash.

Six romas made it into the guacamole on Saturday night! A few yellow pears and one mystery tom were ready Sunday, too.
