You could check your home centers and nurseries for Yellow Bells (Tecoma stans), a native Texas shrub. It's in the same family as Trumpet creeper, and is a good hummer plant.

I second the yellow bells. My other top two recommendations are mandevilla (which is great here because it loves heat, plus since it's a vine you can get it to grow over a long area and that makes it easier for other hummers to sneak in and feed before they're chased away) and red pentas (those will die back every winter, but if they're mulched well and you cut them back heavily in early spring, they'll flower for about half the year here). I never deadhead either and both bloom continuously (esperanza will set seeds if you don't watch it), so those two are nice and low-maintenance. The pentas will also attract butterflies.

Thanks for the advice. I have planted a few new plants,we've had alot of rain so they're doing great, can't wait for them to get bigger. I have a huge esperanza, that did seed everywhere, now I have alot of them, I gave a few away and transplanted a few others around my yard I just wish the Hummingbirds would come to it. I still have alot of Hummingbirds here. thanks.

In the last couple days, mine have also discovered one of my hibiscus. It's funny because they never bothered before, but now that they've "figured it out," they seem rather fond of it.

The right flowers, to me, are like the right men--they don't always attract you at first, and maybe they're passed by for a few years. But eventually, once they're discovered, they just can't be given up! ;)

Turk's turban, malvaviscus arboreus, is loved bu hummers. Next spring would be a good time to plant it and by late summer they are in full bloom until frost.

I don't live there now, but I just moved from NE Texas. Our birds just loved cypress vine, which blooms right up until and maybe through 1 or 2 frosts. Have to watch where you plant it, as it spreads like crazy, but it's really good for nectar.

Also, for some upright plants, you might try Ipomopsis rubra, standing cypress. Most of their bloom is earlier, but with mild weather you can continue to get some off-and-on blooms through the fall.

Don't know when it blooms where you are, but pineapple sage is blooming right now here in Virginia, and the h'birds spent a lot of time at it before they left last week.
