have you read through the posts on this forum? find the growing edge website read everything you can there.
check your local library for any books read them. Many places you have some problems getting a decent nutrient mix local so you may have to mail order. Postage can cost more than the fertilizer. beware of excessive priced products. It is quite possible to grow a 50 dollar head of lettuce!

go to overgrow.com go the the faqs about hydro. I dont grow the pot, but I browse through the forum and get more useful up-to-date info that anywhere. They even have a hydro-organic forum that includes aquaponics.

http://www.hydroponicsonline.com/home.htm is a very good place to start.

I would certainly not go to overgrow.com . I haven't checked it out and would never if they even try to teach how to grow illegal crops. The industry already has the stigma that it is only used for that purpose. I did check out hydroponicsonline.com and have read some great books.

Depending on where you are in IN, there are a couple of stores nearby. I sell to many of them through a large distributor, so let me know if I can help you find someone in your area.

There are many great uses for hydro, check out the Institute for Simplified Hydroponics and Woman of Hope, they will educate and feed 3rd world countries with hydro.

I too, sir, am a fan of Gen Hydro.

I have used many liquid nutrients and always find that I use Gen Hydro most because it works better.

Hydroponics is simply growing plants in a medium other than soil which is typically a water-fertilizer mixture. For myself, I don't buy any of that special equipment. Really all you need to do is suspend the plant over 1/4 strength Miracle-Gro-water solution. Change it every 5-7 days to keep alge from growing.

ed,
i love your site it's very informative. but all those adds just suck...
would you like some help in finding a good cheap webhost?
let me know :)

As an update,

yesterday I built a stone bubbler from the 'hydroponics notebook' link. I modified it and made it with an old balcony flower box I had in the basement. It cost me 20 Euro, and it works like a charm. It took only 25 minutes to put together. I am already considering my next project. Thanks for the links and the ideas!
Tom
